Kayla's Story, in Daddy's Words
When Kayla was two years old I found out that my precious baby had a terminal lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis. CF is an inherited disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to form in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs, this mucus blocks the airways, causing lung damage and making it hard to breathe. In the pancreas, it clogs the pathways leading to the digestive system, interfering with proper digestion. There is no cure.
As Kayla grew into a beautiful little blond headed, blue eyed girl, she began to share the same interests as her dad. By the time Kayla made it to Kindergarten, she had already been bitten by the need for speed! At the age of five she began riding and eventually racing her four wheeler down the track, & when she was eight she got into Jr. Dragsters. We have been racing and hunting ever since! Kayla has even won two back to back IHRA championships at her home track - Immokalee Regional Raceway.
Just like me, Kayla loves to hunt! Prior to her most recent complication, she was able to spend some time hunting - and even got to meet and hunt with Bill Jorden (RealTree Outdoors) and hang out with Tony Stewart (made possible by Catch-A-Dream Foundation and Bass Pro Shops)!!! During that trip, she harvested her first deer - see the photo page for a picture! She's also been on a hunt with Camo Dreams, Inc. and got to hang out with the Buck Commander crew and harvested two doe with them!
I could not be more proud of her determination and drive to succeed! It is this determination that will help her recover, once we bring her home...
