The doctors orders were not to give her anything by mouth, and how much you just want her thirst to be quenched...you ARE helpless and suffer as you watch your little girl suffer. your words cannot comfort a dry mouth and throat or hunger pains from lack of solid food.
As God gave me the skill of being persistent, which I only use for righteousness and justice and making sure the people I loved are cared for appropriately, my persistence has paid off. The doctors and hospital staff understand that I am knowledgeable when it comes to my child's care. The staff also has a better understanding of my relationship with my daughter and completey recognizes us as the best buds that we are!!!
I had asked each day if they could revisit the possibility of allowing KK applesauce, even a small bit here or there to help sooth her throat. She complains that she coughs because it tickles, something she did prior to this admission. i explained this to the hospital staff and that coke seemed to help her relieve this cough.....
Another swallow test was scheduled yesterday...KK PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS!!! Passing this test was very important in order for her to be able to drink and maybe even eat solid foods. KK did so good that it was ordered that she is now able to eat solid foods and drink almost anything she wants.
So last night was our First Supper together, since our Last Supper on November 16th. It was great just to know she could have something to taste. in the past KK always complained about the hospital food, but I was sure that she would just love it now.... My mom and I ate this First Supper with KK, Chris was on the way, coming after work, so her arrival would be later in the night. She asked us not to wait for her becasue she didnt want KK to have to wait any longer to have the pleasure of taste in her mouth. Well, to our surprise, well maybe not so much, KK ate three bites of Mac and Cheese and three bites of mashed potatoes before she said "It tastes Nasty". I guess some things never change.
KK will continue to get fed through her tube, which will supply her with supplemental nutrition. But tonight, she will not have hospital food, she will have what she has been asking for, a nice Outback Steak Dinner, with me, my mom and my fiance. Nikki is with her dad this weekend, so we will do it all over again next weekend when Nikki comes up to visit with KK :) As for the the time inbetween, KK will get any food her pretty little heart desires, this being said from a very happy dad :)
We love you Nikki and Chris :)
Thank you All for everything you do!!!
And if i may just ask one huge favor...Please keep praying for KK...And don't ever stop!
